Romania's recycling industry is undergoing a significant transformation, and Pet Star Recycling is at the forefront of this process. Pet Star is the only group in the Balkans operating a fully integrated “Bottle-to-Bottle” system — PET bottles collected after use are transformed into high-quality recycled granules that return to the market as new food-grade PET packaging.
“We are proud to recycle over a quarter of what the Deposit-Return System (RetuRO SGR) collects in 2024. It is clear proof that efficient and responsible recycling is possible, and Romania has the potential to become an example in this field,” says Mirela Drăgoi, CEO & Co-Founder of the PetStar group.
Founded in 2018, the company invested over €30 million to build a modern factory equipped with state-of-the-art technologies, with a processing capacity of approximately 30,000 tonnes of PET waste per year.
From the start of operations in 2021 through the end of 2023, Pet Star Recycling recorded a turnover of €45 million and a net profit of €1.7 million, creating over 120 green jobs.
The company is planning an additional investment of €15 million to expand capacity beyond 50,000 tonnes annually, generating over 80 new jobs in the recycling sector.
